Wellbeing Week

Last week our annual Wellbeing Week had a fresh new makeover. Inviting specialists into the office, each day focused on a separate theme, from a mental wellbeing talk with Harriet Waley-Cohen, to a pension’s workshop with Adam Percival. Here our people talk about what it meant to them…

A word from our Managing Director, Chris Porges;

“We have always stood by the notion that There Is More To Life Than Work™. Through our Wellbeing Weeks, we try and reinforce this idea for our people. This year more than ever, we have tried to make our focus on wellness as rounded and all-encompassing as possible. As mental and financial wellbeing become ever more important, they were two areas in particular we felt that we needed to support and promote. You have to lead from the front: so across the business we wanted people to take time away from their desk to get advice on important topics like ISAs, debt management, and pensions, or how to avoid stress and burnout – things that really do make a difference in and outside of work.”

Health

“Workplace yoga was a completely different experience to a normal yoga session. It gave me a real appreciation for how to look after my body while working at a desk for most of the day. Ellie covered the best way to stretch out weak muscles and how to avoid causing unnecessary tension by talking us through our postures. Breathing is key in yoga, and Ellie showed us a few simple techniques to relieve stress and refocus ourselves when times get hectic.” – Shannon Walsh, PA to Chris Porges

Financial Wellbeing

“It was really useful to have a bit of refresher on how to manage your finances effectively – especially at this time of year! I found some of the innovative ways to help boost your savings very helpful and particularly liked the “budget brain” tool on moneysavingexpert.com. Now to see if I can implement any of it…” – Chris Parker, Senior Consultant

“The information Adam Percival gave us about pensions was very useful. It was interesting to see how the contributions will ramp up over the next few years. I need to organise some of my financial affairs and I’ve now been referred to one of his colleagues who can help with wealth management.” – Darren Williams, Associate Director

Nutrition

“I really enjoyed participating in Farrah’s cooking class. It has made me more aware of the nutritional value in foods I consume.” – Sarah Mackaill, Senior Talent Acquisition Consultant

“I Really liked learning about a healthy vegan lifestyle and its health benefits… and who knew you could fry onions and garlic with water? Loved the delicious meals that Farrah brought with her…” – Vanessa Sadikvand, Executive Consultant

Mental Wellbeing

“We are very fortunate that we are now part of a generation that is beginning to understand the importance of mental health awareness, but we are only just beginning to and I think that acceptance is just around the corner. I thought that it was very encouraging to see so many people at the seminar, it showed a positive curiosity, a need for guidance and I think that Harriet gave an honest,  warm & really constructive talk, highlighting some great strategies and practices to deal with the pressures of modern life.” – Davina Turner- Perkins, Divisional PA

“I found the seminar very useful. It highlighted to me the benefit of getting things out in the open rather than trying to brush everything under the carpet. The modern workforce needs to know how to understand mental health and the tools and channels available to manage it” – Martin Deavin, Senior Consultant

The Little Extras

“I love all the extra bits and pieces that Goodman Masson have supplied for us over the week, from smoothies every morning to goodie bags at the end of the week. It’s something they don’t have to do – but it really shows how much they care for us” – Anna Boast, Marketing Executive

“Basketball shootout had our hearts racing and brought out all our competitive sides – great laugh and good fun to break up a Friday and get the blood flowing during lunch.” – Candice Larcombe, Executive Consultant

At Goodman Masson, we pride ourselves on the service we offer to our candidates and clients. Yet, to be able to offer this we acknowledge that the wellbeing of everyone that works here is paramount. We want to provide them with the tools they need to be the best person they can be, physically healthy, mentally happy, and financially secure. When you can relieve those three major worries, you create a really great culture to work in – one that everyone wants to be part of.836
